    2. This is an interesting focus. Be sure to move beyond just a side by side comparison. Your topic was the only semi-fleshed out one, earning you one of the three spots for 1984.

    3. Sorry, now that I reread I see I misread and thought you were talking about control of the media during the time the novel was written. As for control in the novel don't spend too much time proving it is there... move beyond.

    4. I was hoping to be able to do more of a creative presentation. Like writing a song and a story similar to the ones that were produced by the Department of Truth in the novel (that were written by machines), mostly because I just found that idea so very interesting. Like, how the lyrics of the songs meant nothing and they just existed to control and appease the population. I hoped that writing and providing some examples of this to the class would help them understand this aspect of the plot and make it as interesting to them as it was to me. I was also hoping to relate it to our culture today, with all the cookie-cutter songs and stories that don't have any impact and are merely produced for monetary value, ya know?

    2. So, I decided to change around my topic a little. I found a passage (pg. 54) in the book I thought was significant and that I could compare and contrast with other passages. My focal point will be the impact of censorship (cutting out thought(Ingsoc), restriction of thought police, and Doublethink) and how this creates dehumanization. Dehumanization will be my focal point and I will be comparing and contrasting how multiple characters go about being dehumanized within their society. (reactions of Winston, Julia, Winston's anonymous co-worker who purely recites Ingsoc, & possibly O'brien). I want to connect this with real-life examples within our society, but am still brainstorming what examples I should use.

I would focus on how the cultural settings affected what message the author was trying to convey through his book. The cold war and communism vs capitalism were big issues at the time, and they were obviously very important in the book. I would use examples from the text to analyze what the author thought about the real world situation, and explore how he tried to convey those thoughts to the reader through the text. I have an interesting idea for my thesis where I say that George Orwell is pro-Totalitarian government. It might seem like a stretch but there is evidence in how he develops his characters, and how he portrays inherent human nature in them. He does this in a way that suggests that the only way to control us is to live in a totalitarian society, where we would learn to be happy and to obey laws.

    1. The allusions to censorship in 1984, and the specific examples of allusions in the book directed at that time period, and how 1984 is a "classic" because there is still censorship in the world today, so just comparing now and then, probably through a video, pieced together with graphics and anylitcal pieces. How media influences us, and how gov. influenced people in book, how author viewed society, and evaulutaing what was actually true to that time period and still is today.

    3. and briefly like how the book affected society an time and now days. how society in book didint necessarily realize censorship, and some examples we dont nessarily recognize today of media influence(more now days rather than gov. inluences).. like "branding" for example or sterotpyes, and that its co common we overlook it, how those things become part of a society. Something that(past 2 comments) for my topic. But while including present day examples, I wont lose focus of anaylzing alusions in 1984, will keep good balance of complarison, and anaylzing book, author and allusions.

    1. Be careful with "no one". Maybe that could be something you look for - are there characters who do naturally want to fit in, making them key targets? You can keep developing this idea and have one of the three 1984 spots.

    2. YAY! :D
There are some characters that naturally want to fit in, I assume. I just have to reread the novel and pick them out of the ones that don't naturally want to fit in. I believe that most people only want to "fit in" because they feel that is the only way to survive both in the litteral aspect and in the social aspect.

  10. 1984 IOPs: Isabella, Olivia, Hayley, and Michelle (looks a bit sexist but the girls all fleshed out their ideas). There are other dystopian books still open or Their Eyes Were Watching God.
